Dear Doris,
From the first time we brought you lunch, you were my favorite stop on our Meals on Wheels route. I remember the day that you were added to our route. When we knocked on your door, we were immediately welcomed into your home and treated like friends. You were so sweet with Lily and Owen. I loved watching you "talk" to Lily's babies. She loved that so much! They both loved coming to your home because you always made them feel so special.
One Monday, your sweet husband answered the door and I chatted with him for a little while. He explained to me that you had terminal lung cancer and that they were all surprised that you were still there. My heart ached for you and your family that day. And after that, I watched everything that you did in a whole new light. It was so inspiring to me to see how happy and positive you were about everything, even though your time here was limited.
A couple of weeks ago, Lily and Owen fell asleep in the car and I had a little extra time to talk with you. That conversation meant so much to me. You told me about your life and that even though things hadn't gone exactly to plan, you were happy. You taught me that it is possible to raise a family and follow your dreams at the same time, sometimes it just takes a little longer. You inspired me to start writing and to "put my spark down on paper." Those lessons you shared with me that day really hit home. Your sense of adventure and optimism is contagious.
This morning your house was not listed on my route sheet. When I came home tonight I googled you name and my heart sank when your obituary came up. I have been sitting here for the past few hours, shedding tears and remembering all the things I have learned from you during our weekly visits. You were such an amazing woman and I am thankful for the wonderful example that you have been to me and my children. May God bless you and your family!
Love,
Jeni

I'm sorry, Jeni. You were just telling me that you hoped she wouldn't pass away for awhile. I'm glad you were able to spend so much time with her and learn so much.
It's so nice that you deliver meals for those people.
what a beautiful entry. i'm glad she inspired you.
