We did it!

We just finished participating in one of the most anticipated elections in our nations history. I assumed that the lines would be completely ridiculous, so I went prepared to wait at least an hour. I packed activities and snacks to keep Lily and Owen occupied. I also tried to go when I thought no one else would, right before lunch when it was snowing outside. Before we left I explained to Lily what we were going to do.

Me: "Lily, we get to go vote today. Voting is very important. We are going over to the school and we are going to wait in line for a while. When it is Mommy's turn, I get to go to the booth and vote. When I'm done, we all get stickers. Today we are going to decide who the next president will be. We are so lucky to live in a country where we have the opportunity to go do this. So, who do you think I should vote for, Obama or McCain?"
Lily: "I wanna vote for Obama."
Me: "Interesting... why Obama?"
Lily: "Because I want a sticker."
Me: "It doesn't matter who you vote for, either way you get a sticker. So who should Mommy vote for?"
Lily: "SANTA!"

We actually only spent about three minutes in line. It went extremely quickly and no, I did not vote for Santa. I was thankful because I'm pretty sure my little posse wouldn't have lasted an hour, even with treats. While we were walking out the door, Lily started to get a little upset.

Me: "What's wrong sweetie? We're all done! Let's go home and eat lunch!"
Lily: "But I want to see the boat! Where's the big boat?"

I realized that she had been so well behaved because she thought that she was going to see a big boat! I thought that my explanation had really sunk in and that she understood how important this was. But no, she thought we were going somewhere on an actual boat! I love the way their little minds work!

So, I "BOATED" today, have you?

i boated today, and i'm grateful for early voting because all the early voters are suckers who made it so you and i didn't have to wait in line.

**milli voted for obama. i'm not sure where she went to cast that vote, but that's what she tells me.

I miss you guys! I am sad you will be gone this weekend when we come down! I boated for the first time ever and it was kind of exciting! Give the little ones a smooch from their aunt Julie!
