My baby turned three today. I am amazed that the little person I met on this day three years ago has turned into such a beautiful little girl. We have learned a lot from each other these past few years. Although, I am sure that I am the one who learned the most. Lily and I have a special relationship. We spent twenty one months hanging out one on one. Right before Owen was born I was a little sad thinking about how our special time together was over. But come to find out, adding Owen to the mix only made things better. For the most part, Lily is an amazing big sister. Once in a while she gets a little rough with Owen, but some may argue that she is just “toughening him up”. It is a little funny to watch her push him down and then turn right around and try to console him. That’s Lily.
Lily is at such a fun age right now. I love watching her little imagination work every day. This afternoon she baked me an entire imaginary meal and made me eat it. Every time I would pretend to take a bite, she would come blow on it to make sure that it wasn’t too hot for my tummy. That’s Lily.
To celebrate her birthday, Lily, Owen, and I spent the day at Thanksgiving Point. Our first stop was lunch at the dinosaur museum. I usually make them share a meal, but since it was her birthday, I let Lily and Owen have their own kids meals. While we were eating I noticed that Lily kept sneaking Owen some of her dino nuggets and Cheetos. I told her that she could eat all of them because Owen had his own food. She looked at me and said, But Mom, I like sharing with Owen.” That’s Lily.
One of my favorite moments of the day, is when I get to put Lily to bed. I snuggle in her bed and we sing songs and tell stories. I love to listen to her sing songs. For a three year old, I think she has pretty good pitch. Maybe I’m just a little biased. I cherish all of our little conversations that we have at night before bed. And she always tells me that she loves me. That’s Lily.
At my wedding breakfast my mom read a letter that I wrote when I was a teenager. It said something to the effect that I hoped that I would have a “wild child with lots of energy that was always running around naked.” Well…I got that and so much more because that’s my Lily!
