This is Fred, our beta fish. Fred has been a part of our family for six months now. I have never owned a fish before and when we got him I only expected him to make it a month or so. Remarkably, we haven't killed him yet. Todd is great at cleaning out his bowl and Lily helps feed him every morning and night. Well, this morning we went to feed him and Fred was no where to be found. I thought maybe he died and Todd just didn't mention it. But, when Lily went to sleep last night Fred was still going strong. So, I looked a little closer and found Fred at the very bottom of the bowl wedged in the rocks. I thought for sure he was dead, but I tapped the bowl just to make sure. And his little fins started to wiggle! I carefully removed the rocks on top of him so that I wouldn't hurt him. When I removed the last rock, he swam straight to the top. He looks a little skinnier than he usually does, but otherwise he seems to be okay. I still have no idea how he managed to get under the rocks. But if he makes it through this, he is one lucky little fishy! For now, Lily, Owen, and I are on "Fred Watch". Lily is worried about her fish so we've been checking on him every half hour or so. I know he's just a fish, but we are all hoping he'll pull through this!
