This lovely chain of events started yesterday afternoon, after a very enjoyable time swimming at the Lehi Legacy Center. When we finished swimming, we headed back to the locker room to change. I was there by myself, so I was pretty distracted trying to make sure that Lily didn't try to jump in the shower fully clothed. While I was talking to her, I leaned over to pick up a swimsuit off the floor and the exact second that Owen swung open one of the lockers. I slammed into it with my right cheek. Almost instantly my face started to swell up. I hurried to gather all of our stuff and get out of there. I could feel my cheek getting larger and I was having a tough time seeing out of my right eye. I was hoping that it wasn't too noticeable, but all of the looks I got from people confirmed my suspicions...I looked just like Quasimodo. After a bit of ice, the swelling went down enough for me to see so I could drive home. All of the swelling has gone down now, but I still look like this...

So yeah, waking up to that this morning put me in a really great mood from the get-go. We had a couple of errands to run this afternoon, one of which was Ikea. While we were there, my quick-handed little guy managed to grab a glass candle holder and drop it on the floor. It shattered all over, including inside my flip flops so I ended up with a couple small shards of glass stuck in my foot. Not a big deal, but it was a nuisance. After we left the store, Lily and Owen started playing a game. I don't know how it evolved into sticking their hands down their throats to gag themselves, but it did. And right as soon as I said, "Stop doing that or you are going to throw up!" I heard Owen lose it all over the backseat. Awesome! I love cleaning up vomit!! Once that was taken care of, we started to try to assemble Lily's bed. I'm usually pretty efficient at putting together furniture, but with Lily and Owen helping things just took twice as long as it should have. When I finished, I walked into the hallway to put some trash in the box. I came back in the room to find that Owen had found a pen, somehow broken that pen, and managed to get ink on the brand new bed. I was frustrated at this point, so I sent the kids out of the room so I could try to get it off. And I did end up getting most of it off. Meanwhile, Lily and Owen had discovered the packing foam and how if you tear it up it turns into hundreds of tiny white balls. When I emerged from cleaning the ink stain, it looked like Christmas at our house. Instead of snow, our hallway, loft, and living room were carpeted in a blanket of foam. Even more frustrated now, I lock both kids in Owen's room so I could clean up the latest mess. It took me a good half hour to clean it all up. All the while I could hear them happily playing in Owen's room. Since they were happy, I took a break and went downstairs to get a drink of water. When I was walking up the stairs, I caught a faint smell of baby powder. Suddenly I realized that I had left a brand new bottle of baby powder on Owen's dresser. Sure enough, as I walked down the hallway I saw a white cloud coming out from under the door. And this...

Made the room look like this...

And this is what they were doing with it...

And this is what their guilty, very white little faces looked like when I came in...

Now I wish that had been the end of the story, but it's not. I put both kids in the bath while I attempted to clean up the powdery mess. Of course, I came back in to almost an inch of water flooding my bathroom floor. While I wiped that up, Owen proceeded to pee on the floor. So, I cleaned that up too. I managed to get both kids dressed and eating a snack while they watched a show so that I could finish cleaning up the boxes from the bed. I carried a large load of cardboard out to the garbage and when I came back to the house, the door was locked. Owen had followed me downstairs and locked me out of the house. I stood there on the porch trying to tell him how to undo the deadbolt, but he would just yell back, "Hi Mama!" in his totally sweet and innocent little voice. I had to wait a half hour until Lily finished watching her show and came down to let me it. I finally started cooking dinner (at 9:30pm) and while I was trying to get something together, Owen took a pencil and drew a little mural on my freshly painted laundry room, while Lily found my stash of cookies in my work desk and ate them all. While I cleaned up the mural, Owen went into the kitchen and pushed the water button of the front of the fridge until there was a nice little puddle out there for me when I returned. As soon as dinner was done, I put both the kiddos to bed because I am completely exhausted! I seriously cannot wait until Todd gets home from his river rafting trip with the scouts tomorrow so I can have a little back-up. Does anybody else ever have days like this or am I just a really terrible mommy?

Oh Jeni you are not a terrible mommy you are wonder woman! I do have to say this post made me not want to have another kid hahaa just kidding. That was quite a day and I thanfully don't think I have had one that bad but it is probably because I just have one kid. I really feel sympathetic for you! The picture of your eye made me feel so bad but you still look pretty lol. I am sorry that you had a terrible no good really bad day. I miss you.

Amber
hahahaha! Sounds like a day at my house! We all have them, you are too funny! Love ya! See you in nursery tomorrow for some more fun adventures! :)
Jeni! I love the baby powder pictures. Sounds like some fun :) Maybe we should have come over after IKEA to help put up the bed. Well even after all of that I still think your kids are too darn cute!
Oh no! I would have been so incredibly angry. The fact you kept your cool makes you superwoman!!!
You are one patient woman-- it is hard to be mad after a hard day when your kids are so stinkin' cute, even if they are good trouble makers!
Wow, you must be super mom! There is no way that I would be sane enough to even think about taking pictures after all the torture your kids put you through that day! Hope you had a better day today!
That is an awesome story. . provided some very entertaining reading this morning. We need to see you guys soon! It's been too long.
I have seen you with your kids and you are a WONDERFUL mother. I would have totally lost it by now and locked my kids in their room for good...You would think that all those things in one week would have stressed someone to the max, let alone one day!! Wow! It's hard being home without the hubby. Good luck!
It's days like these that I'm grateful for my MIL and ship my kids off for the day to "play" at their grandma's house.
We've been through it all! Baby powder, packing foam, and the works...but it's usually one of my boys that has the black eye...today it's Jack!
Black eye and all...you're one hot mamma!
Seriously sounds like a day from my life sometimes...today, I knew I was "Mom of the Year" because I did completely lose it...and somehow the kids just keep on going!! Nice to know I'm not alone! Though I do have to admit, I've never had THAT much trouble in one day!! You are TRULY AMAZING!!! You are SUPERMOM for sure!!
